Lesson 01 - Reap the Wind
  Mr. Ron Smith

Reaping the Wind
Students use the Internet to research the history and current methods of the production of commercial electricity. Types of production studied include burning of gas, oil, coal, and biomass; hydroelectric; nuclear; solar; geothermal; and wind turbine.

The focus of the research narrows down to the development and future of wind farms in West Texas.

Using PowerPoint, PrintMaster, and Movie Maker 2, students produce slide shows, posters, and video clips to demonstrate what they have learned.

Internet Research
Students use the Internet to locate historical background facts, statistics, charts, graphs, and visuals regarding the discovery, development, and commercial production of electricity.

The production methods researched include the burning of oil, gas, and biomass; hydroelectric; nuclear; geothermal; and wind turbine.

Students copy and paste information along with URLs into created Microsoft Word documents. Students then export their files to jump drives or floppy disks to enable teacher to evaluate digitally by highlighting pertinent and useful information.
