  Ms. Lucy Herrera

ˇBienvenidos! Welcome to Spanish classes at Roby CISD. My name is Lucy Herrera and I teach Spanish levels one, two and three. In my classes we create artificial realities by setting up groups of students as "families". "Family" members represent three generations and come from different Spanish-speaking countries. Students have fun communicating with other classes in Spanish and learning about their countries and individual identities.

Level one students work hard all year acquiring basic knowledge of vocabulary and grammar, the sound system, and learning about the culture of various Spanish-speaking countries.

Level two students develop their basic skills through projects that require more advanced reading, writing, and listening skills. Some of these projects include a virtual internet trip to Costa Rica, creating and presenting an idea for an invention of the future, and story-telling using video.

Level three students study advanced grammar and are exposed to Spanish literature. Students build their language skills by focusing on the application of skills outside the classroom. For example, students learn how to apply for and interview for a job in Spanish, they are exposed to Spanish-speaking news and entertainment media and they learn about environmental issues affecting the Spanish-speaking world.
